An Inspiration for Healthcare Education in Uganda

Equity Health Institute (EHI) is a forward-thinking educational institution operating under Quick Access Ltd, a private, not-for-profit organization founded in 2016 by three visionary students. Initially focused on retail pharmacies, Quick Access Ltd has since expanded its reach to include various subsidiaries, including EHI, to address critical issues in healthcare and education in Uganda.

Uganda faces a severe shortage of healthcare workers, which hampers the delivery of quality healthcare services, particularly at the primary healthcare level. To address this challenge, EHI adopts innovative approaches to healthcare training, leveraging technology and strategic partnerships to provide accessible and affordable education.

Quick Access Ltd

Introduction

Quick Access Ltd has established 3 subsidiary companies and Each subsidiary supports EHI’s educational goals while contributing to a robust healthcare ecosystem in Uganda.

The 3 subsidiary companies include Equity Pharma Ltd (EPL), Eduford Microfinance Ltd (EMF) and Equity Health Services U Ltd (EHSUL)

Equity Pharma Ltd (EPL)

Role: As the healthcare products division of QUICK ACCESS LTD, Equity Pharma Ltd (EPL) specializes in the retail, import, wholesale, marketing, and distribution of pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, devices, and sundries.

Training and Opportunities: EPL enhances EHI’s educational offerings by providing students with hands-on experience in patient care through dispensing at retail pharmacies. Additionally, EPL offers apprenticeship programs in various departments, including Regulatory, Administration, Sales and Marketing, and Quality Assurance. These programs not only foster a comprehensive understanding of the healthcare supply chain and business operations but also provide students with opportunities to earn allowances that help cover tuition and living expenses.

Eduford Microfinance Ltd (EMF)

Role: As a financial support arm of Quick Access Ltd EMF supports EHI’s commitment to affordability by offering interest-free, collateral-free study loans along with loans for scholastic materials and gadgets like laptops and textbooks.

Financial Support: This subsidiary’s innovative financing models enable EHI students to afford their education by extending the payment period beyond the duration of their studies, thereby easing the financial pressures that often deter potential students from pursuing healthcare careers.

Equity Health Services U Ltd (EHSUL)

Role: As the healthcare services arm of Quick Access Ltd, Equity Health Services U Ltd (EHSUL) offers a comprehensive range of diagnostic, preventive, and curative services.

Training and Services: EHSUL enhances EHI’s clinical training programs by incorporating apprenticeships and internships into its operations. This integration enables students to gain practical, hands-on experience in healthcare delivery, working alongside professionals in both charitable and private settings, supported by collaborations with government entities and private facilities.
